Take the Lead With a Race BMX Handlebar

Having a good race BMX handlebar is key to getting the edge over your opponents on the race track. BMX race bars are built to be lightweight and responsive and are usually made out of tough aluminum or Chromoly steel. Just like freestyle bars, you can choose between a 2-piece or 4-piece construction.

Most BMX bars are 8 to 10 inches high and 28 to 30 inches wide but it is possible to get sizes bigger and smaller than this to fit your preference.

When it comes to positioning your bar for BMX racing, you will get the best handling if you set up your bars so that they are in line with your head tube angle. However, many riders choose to bring the bars either forward or backward to suit their personal preference. In general, race handlebars do not rise as steep as freestyle bars.

Can BMX Handlebars Be Raised?

In most instances, yes! All you need are BMX Tools and an Allen key. Firstly, you will need to check if it’s possible to adjust the stem. If this is the case then you will then want to loosen the screws holding the stem in place. Once these have been loosened, simply slide the stem from the steering tube.

Next, you’ll need to adjust the bars to your preferred height. When you are happy with this, put the stem back into its original position and tighten it again. Finally, you’ll want to align the stem so that the handlebar is in line with the fork.

Whatever handlebar you have, it’s important that you also have a set of Race BMX Grips so you can stay in control on the track.
